Secondary Insurance and Coordination of Benefits
What do I do if I have primary and secondary insurance?
Please inform Seven Starling and your insurance directly if you are covered by more than one active insurance plan. Reporting both plans upfront helps streamline your care and can decrease billing errors and confusion...
Why it’s important: Insurance companies are required by law to determine which plan pays first. If they aren't aware of each other, they may accidentally pay in the wrong order. If that happens, they may request a refund for those payments months later, which can leave you with an unexpected bill.
To share your insurance(s) with Seven Starling, please upload photos of the front and back of both your primary and secondary insurance cards directly to your Seven Starling account under “Documents”. Then, email support@sevenstarling.com to notify us that you’ve uploaded these photos, noting which insurance is your primary and which is your secondary. Our team will provide an updated cost estimate for your care via email within 1-3 business days of receipt of your email.
Please note that your primary insurance may require coordination of benefits (COB) if you have secondary insurance. This varies by plan, but if required by your plan it may delay successful processing of your claims. Patients are the only ones who can do this – unfortunately Seven Starling cannot do this on behalf of a patient. The most direct way to update or confirm your COB is to call the member services phone number on the back of your insurance card.
